WB Slates ‘Dynamic Duo’ Animated Movie for 2028; Confirms ‘Clayface’

Warner Bros. Pictures Animation has officially set the release of DC Studios’ animated Batman-verse movie Dynamic Duospotlighting the origins of two Robins: Dick Grayson (later known as Nightwing) and Jason Todd (Red Hood). The first joint project of the two refabbed studios will release to IMAX on June 30, 2028.

Produced in partnership with L.A.-based puppet animation outfit Swaybox Studios (its debut feature film) and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho, the movie will be a mixed media actioner — “a mix of animation, puppetry, and CG,” as previously revealed by DC Studios head James Gunn. The story penned by Matthew Aldrich will show how young Grayson and Todd’s friendship becomes tested by their diverging visions of their respective futures.

Aldrich’s credits include the original story and screenplay for Pixar’s Cocofor which he won an Annie Award (shared with Alfred Molina) and was nominated for a Humanitas Prize, and the studio’s Toy Story spinoff Lightyear.

Dynamic Duo is being directed by Swaybox co-founder Arthur Mintz. Producers are Swaybox co-founder Theresa Andersson, and 6th & Idaho’s Reeves and Lynn Harris.

Clayface in ‘Harley Quinn’ [Max]

Warner and DC have also signaled that the standalone live-action Clayface feature is going ahead, assigning horror master Mike Flanagan to write the screenplay and setting a theatrical release for September 11, 2026.

The reported “horror-thriller-tragedy” will be produced by Reeves and Harris as well, and will precede an expected appearance by the crusty mutated villain in The Batman Part II (Oct. 6, 2026).

The DC Studios release slate also includes Gunn’s Superman (July 11, 2025), Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26, 2026) and two untitled movies (May 29, 2026 and March 5, 2027).
