Latvia: State support for those displaced from Ukraine will continue in 2025

Since the 2022 outbreak of the ongoing war in Ukraine, there have been two main pieces of legislation regulating state support for refugees from Ukraine in Latvia: the Law on assistance to Ukrainian civilians and the Action plan for providing support to Ukrainian civilians in the Republic of Latvia.

Based on the continuation of the EU Temporary Protection Directive, designed for the support of those fleeing Ukraine across the EU, the Latvian parliament and the Cabinet of Ministers renewed both pieces of legislation to ensure their continuation into next year.

Those displaced from Ukraine living in Latvia will therefore continue to receive support and benefits from the Latvian state in 2025. This support includes the issuance of employment documents, information provision services, primary support for accommodation and meals, social assistance, financial support measures, access to education and health care, employment support measures, language training, cultural orientation and other integration measures, as well as protecting the rights of unaccompanied minors.
