François Bayrou succeeds Michel Barnier as Prime Minister. The mayor of , father of six children and 21 times grandfather, should benefit from the support of those close to him. His appointment is an opportunity to remember his daughter's serious illness.

The French learned the news this Friday, December 13, at lunchtime: François Bayrou was appointed by Emmanuel Macron as new Prime Minister. The same morning, the mayor of Pau spoke at length with the head of state at the Élysée. The previous evening, the two had spoken by telephone. His appointment to Matignon is not really a surprise, since his name had been circulating among the potential successors of Michel Barnier since the beginning of December, a period when the country found itself without a government. The head of MoDem should begin this new chapter in his political career with the support of his large family, he who is the father of six children and grandfather of twenty-one grandchildren. A clan which, like any other, has not only known happy times.

During an interview with Karine Le Marchand in 2016, François Bayrou confided that one of his daughters suffered from anorexia in the early 2000s. This period, which we can imagine was extremely painful for a parent, was marked by the hospitalization of the young girl who had to be separated from her family to undergo treatment. If the hospitalization was beneficial for their daughter, it was trying for François Bayrou and his wife Élisabeth, who were not able to visit her or have contact with her during her hospitalization, in order to facilitate her recovery. This bad patch lasted two years, but finally had a happy ending. “We had a daughter, who is doing very well today, who was very ill, who had anorexia”explained the politician in An intimate ambitione.

François Bayrou: the daughter of another politician went through a similar ordeal

At the microphone of Karine Le Marchand, François Bayrou confided that this painful episode in his life brought him closer to Jacques Chirac, whose daughter Laurence, who died in spring 2016, suffered for a long time from anorexia nervosa. This illness, which upset the entire Chirac clan, would have its origins during a vacation in Porto-Vecchio in the heart of the summer of 1973. In his book Bernadette Chirac, the secrets of a conquestErwan L'Eléouet recalls a serious incident that occurred during this period: the 15-year-old teenager, brilliant, carefree and athletic, learned that she was suffering from meningitis. It was as a result of this pathology, which caused irreparable damage, that the young girl developed a severe form of anorexia nervosa.
