“She left screaming”… An 11-year-old schoolgirl attacked by a prowler during a sports class

The news quickly spread within the walls of the college. During a sports lesson held outside the establishment, a 6th grade student from Théodore-Monod middle school in Vern-sur-Seiche (Ille-et-Vilaine) was grabbed by a prowler, who tried to kill her. assault. Actively sought by the gendarmes of this town located very close to , the individual was arrested this Thursday, December 12 and placed in police custody. According to information from 20 Minutesthis is not the first time that a student at the establishment has suffered such an attack. Last year, the same man had already approached a student in similar circumstances.

The facts date back to Tuesday December 3 at the end of the morning. A 6th grade class takes part in an orienteering session near the ponds located very close to the public school. In small groups, the students must go in search of markers hidden in the vegetation. It was during this activity that an 11-year-old child saw a stranger appear out of nowhere to grab her, while she was bending down to grab a beacon.

“It only lasted a few seconds”

According to our information, the suspect grabbed the young girl's arm and grabbed her sweatshirt. The teenager struggled and managed to escape by hitting her attacker's arms. “She left screaming and told her friend. It only lasted a few seconds,” testifies a mother of a student in the class concerned. A little earlier in the session, the same individual had already approached two young girls in the class. After the attack, the PE teacher gathered his students and returned to the school to report the incident.

The local gendarmes were able to collect the testimony of several students who all described the same profile: a rather elderly marginal man with a beard. Robot portraits were taken, leading to the arrest of an individual this Thursday in Vern-sur-Seiche. According to the gendarmes, the same individual is suspected of having attacked another student during an orienteering race in 2023. “It’s a bit worrying,” admits a source close to the case. At the time of the events, the establishment had simply decided to suspend activity for this class only.

Parents criticize the college's reaction

Since this new attack, parents have denounced the lack of reaction from the school. Only a brief email mentioning “an incident” was sent only to the parents of the class concerned to alert them of the cancellation of the orienteering lessons. The activity had been canceled, but for 6th grade classes only. “We have the impression that the school doesn't want it to get out, that they want to put the blame on it,” regrets a student's mother.

Contacted, the management of the establishment explains “not being able to communicate” while the gendarmerie investigation is still in progress.
