Francesco Farioli is not taking any risks with the starting positions of Devyne Rensch and Mika Godts, the Ajax coach tells us prior to the home game against SS Lazio Ziggo Sports. Godts was on the field for just under fifteen minutes against AZ (2-1), while Rensch did not play at all in Alkmaar. However, the pair are fit enough to start from kick-off against Lazio.
‘They’re fine. As you know, I am always very careful with these types of situations,” Farioli begins his story. ‘They are fit and they are going to start.’
In midfield, Steven Berghuis is preferred to Kian Fitz-Jim. “It is a tactical decision,” says Farioli when asked about the left-footer’s starting position. ‘Steven has already played quite a few games in that position, such as against Real Sociedad. He fills that position well and we are satisfied with that.’
Farioli also discusses the mental state of his team after a number of tough weeks. “You don’t need motivation for these kinds of matches,” the Italian responds. ‘We are competing for a place in the top eight, but our adventure is long. It all started with six games in the preliminary rounds. The players are well prepared and there is a good atmosphere in the team.’

Pasveer hopes for a nice evening with Ajax supporters
Goalkeeper Remko Pasveer also appears in front of the camera prior to the match against Lazio Ziggo Sports. The experienced goalie is first asked about the physical condition of the selection. ‘I don’t think we are tired. For these types of competitions, charging yourself is not that difficult. These are great competitions, so that often happens automatically.’
Pasveer has had a few tough weeks with Ajax. ‘We were unlucky with two canceled matches. As a result, we have to play a lot of matches in a short period, but that is no problem,” the goalie refers to the catch-up matches with Feyenoord and FC Utrecht. Ajax managed to win only two of the last five matches. ‘This is an ideal opportunity to turn it around with the audience behind it. I hope for another beautiful evening with the supporters. You always have a phase in the season when everything doesn’t fall into place.’
