– The town hall of Thiberville, a small town of less than 1,800 inhabitants.

Roger Thiberville had never had the opportunity to visit… Thiberville. But he knew of the existence of this small Normandy town bearing the same name as him. So, for lack of descendants, he decided to bequeath your fortune. And not a small sum since when Roger died last summer at the age of 91, the village received no less than 10 million euros. Owner of several apartments, Roger took care to make his money grow through judicious investments. It will therefore make people happy. According to The Dispatchthis sum represents in fact, five times the annual budget of Thiberville. From the local newspaper The Norman Awakeningthe mayor, Guy , still can’t believe it: “Luckily I was seated!» he remembers.

Thanks to Roger, this village of less than 1800 inhabitants will be able to repay its debt and launch several renovation projects. A stele in honor of this very generous donor will be erected. Roger, who lived in Paris, had certainly never set foot in Thiberville, but his ashes, as he had requested in his will, will be spread there.

These municipalities which receive money as an inheritance

This is not the first time that a municipality has received this type of inheritance. We remember in particular this resident of Saint-Avé (56), who bequeathed more than a million euros to his town at the end of 2022. Or even this 95-year-old man who last year bequeathed his entire fortune in Tourrettes, his town of residence. A gift worth more than 2.5 million euros then conditional on the creation of a place of reception for the elderly. On the other hand, in the case of Roger Thiberville, it is the first time that such a donation has been made by a person foreign to the legatee municipality.
