Cloudy skies, mild temps start the morning in Arizona with cool weather on tap

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Much of the state is waking up to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures that are more mild than yesterday morning’s chilly lows.

In the Valley, we’ll warm from the 40s and 50s this morning to the mid 70s this afternoon. Skies will gradually clear for a mostly sunny afternoon.

A weak area of low pressure southwest of Arizona will pass by to the south today. This is what is pumping the cloud cover into Arizona. No rain is expected from this system.

A separate storm is dropping down from the Oregon coast and will push through the Great Basin over the next few days. This will bring a chance of light rain and snow flurries to far Northern Arizona later today and tomorrow morning, along with gusty southwest winds to the high country today.

Behind this system, temperatures will drop slightly across the state on Friday. Valley afternoon temperatures will top out in the upper 60s, which is near normal for this time of year.

Over the weekend, skies will be mostly sunny with just a few high clouds and afternoon temperatures in the low 70s. A ridge of high pressure is forecast to build over our region next week, keeping conditions dry across Arizona. Valley temperatures will climb to the mid 70s.
