The suspense is lifted. The SNB reduces its key rate by 50 basis points to 0.5% on Thursday. This is the 4th drop since March 2024. This decision comes after Martin Schlegel took the reins of the institute since October 1.

Inflation, which has slowed more quickly than expected, justifies this measure in particular. More than 50% of the financial market was banking on a cut of this magnitude. In November, inflation stood at 0.7% while it was still at 1.1% during the last assessment of the economic and monetary situation by the SNB in August.
