Borussia Dortmund deliberately started the season with a small squad in the summer. While the Saxons are already positioning themselves for a potential winter signing with central defender Óscar Mingueza, BVB has not yet made a decision about a Süle replacement. The 29-year-old will miss large parts of the season due to another torn syndesmotic ligament.
It is not yet clear whether the central defender needs surgery. Given the rumored downtime, coach Nuri Sahin spoke of “a few months”Borussia is almost forced to act – also due to Süle’s contractual situation.

Süle in a contractual dilemma
The 49-time national player is still tied to BVB until 2026, and from the summer he will enter the last year of his contract. As ‘Sky’ recently reported, Dortmund would not extend the expiring working paper as things stand.
Despite the right-footer’s efforts last summer to get back to normal weight, Strobelallee was hoping for more from the top earner this season. Süle doesn’t have much time to recommend himself for a well-paid BVB contract. The question arises as to whether BVB should bring a Süle representative on board in January, not just in the short term, but above all in the long term.
