This Wednesday, December 11 at 9:10 p.m., CStar offers Stay a littlethe feature film where Gad Elmaleh explores a little-known aspect of himself: his spiritual journey. In this deeply personal film, the comedian and actor shares his questions about faith and his attraction to Christianity, while blurring the lines between reality and fiction. He runs his own family there, including his parents Régine and David Elmaleh, as well as his sister Judith.
Stay a little : A film between truth and fiction
During an interview with TF1 Info, Gad Elmaleh spoke about the genesis of Stay a littlea project that he describes as “necessary”. However, he remains evasive about the autobiographical part of the film: “There are true things, there are false things, but I won’t say which ones,” he confides. This deliberate choice maintains a vagueness around the feature film genre. “Is it a docu-fiction, an autofiction, cinema vérité? I can't classify it myself”, explains the actor. For Gad Elmaleh, the film goes beyond the religious question: “It's not really a film about religion, but about faith and the existential crises that we can go through. I wanted to be sincere, even if it's not simple.”
Stay a little : A bold and introspective subject
After three years in the United States, Gad Elmaleh returned to Paris, but not only for his mother's cooking. As the synopsis reveals, it is to find… the Virgin Mary. A complex theme, which the actor, from the Jewish tradition, approaches with modesty. “Talking about my fascination with Mary, as a Jew, is a forbidden game. It is even considered idolatry in my religion,” he explains. Gad Elmaleh, who studied the Talmud and followed a rigorous religious education, nevertheless considers this project as a way of sharing his doubts, his reflections and his love for religions. To structure his ideas and transform his thoughts into a real film, Noé's father collaborated with screenwriter Benjamin Charbit. Together, they created a framework that mixes fiction and reality.
