The fourth victory of Stade Brestois in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven (1-0), Tuesday, perhaps the most beautiful, certainly the most difficult to win, allowed the Finistère club, in all likelihood, to at least participate in the C1 play-offs. This journey is unexpected and will bring big returns to the Finistère club, especially in a year where domestic TV rights have decreased.
According to documents available to UEFA, Brest received a one-off participation bonus of 18.62 million euros in September. Then, we must add to this the TV rights. “The amounts allocated to these two parties will be proportional to the effective result of the sale of media rights for this competition on the UEFA markets (European part) and in all other markets (non-European part). The countries of the participating clubs are ranked according to the contribution of their national broadcasters to the total media revenues for the entire cycle of the competition,” indicates the European confederation. Thanks in particular to Canal +, the French broadcaster, Brest should also receive a budget of around 18 million euros.
Between 45 and 70 million euros.
Thanks to its 13 points on the clock since the start of the competition, Stade Brestois has already received 9.1 million euros, with each point bringing in 700,000 euros. A figure which can obviously increase after the matches against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid.
Otherwise, once the league phase is over, Brest will receive a bonus depending on its ranking. The team that finishes 36th and last in the ranking will receive 275,000 euros while the first will receive 36x more (9.9 million euros). If the ranking had been finalized on the evening of its success against PSV, the Breton club, then 5th, would have received 8.8 million euros.
In the case of Top 8, a bonus of two million euros is paid while between 9th and 16th place, this sum is divided in half. Finally, participation in the round of 16 would bring in an additional 11 million euros.
With a budget of around 60 million euros this season and depending on its final ranking, Stade Brestois could therefore receive between 45 and 70 million euros in additional revenue thanks to the Champions League.
