Most searched sports retailer and Riner on Google in 2024

The two national stars of the summer, unsurprisingly, emerge at the top of the top charts of the year at the time of the first assessments.

Google has communicated the results of its most requested searches in for the whole of 2024, and it is Léon Marchand who appears as sportsman number 1 ahead of Teddy Riner. The two multiple Olympic champions have obviously surfed the 2024 wave and even rank No. 4 and No. 5 in all areas, respectively behind Michel Barnier, Kendji Girac and Kate Middleton. Strangely, the third athlete in the top 10 is a footballer but not a Frenchman, in this case Lamine Yamal (n°10), star of Euro 2024 and who brought down the Blues in the semi-finals with his exceptional goal (2 -1).

Mbappé: “I told him that soon he would no longer live”

In terms of global search trends, and therefore events, it is sport which monopolizes the podium with the Euro football ahead of Paris 2024 and the African Cup of Nations (football), in that order. The CAN, won in February by Ivory Coast, thus waited until the summer to be dethroned.

But it is Léon Marchand, again and again, who emerges as the big winner from this study and must manage his new notoriety. Kylian Mbappé, very recently a guest on the show Clique on Canal+, also mentioned this aspect concerning the star swimmer, whom he met a year and a half before the big explosion of Paris 2024: “I told him that I envied him a lot , but that soon I would no longer envy him that given his talent and what he was going to do, soon he would come with me and he would no longer live in it, it's great because. that he made history and did something fantastic, but he will enter the club of those who are seen everywhere and all the time.” Except that, as for Teddy Riner, the fundamental difference compared to football remains that of the calendar and the existence of only one important meeting per year at most, and above all of the Olympic Games only every four years. Which inevitably allows, in the meantime, the pressure to drop. And to ignore, for example, short course World Championships with much less impact.
