XV of – “Antoine Dupont went on vacation for two months”: Kylian Mbappé talks about the athletes’ calendars

During an interview with Mouloud Achour in Clique He notably compared his sporting agenda with Léon Marchand, NBA players and rugby star Antoine Dupont.

“Antoine Dupont, he went on vacation for two months. He went to Miami, he came back, peacefully”. French football star Kylian Mbappé was Mouloud Achour's guest on Clique X on Canal +. In a long interview lasting almost an hour, the captain of the French football team notably cited the French rugby player, also star and captain of his national team, Antoine Dupont.

During the interview, the number 9 of Real Madrid spoke on a current subject: the overloaded schedule of footballers. Accustomed to the hectic pace of the European scene with matches almost every three days, Mbappé compared his schedule with that of other athletes. He cited several examples: “I look closely at what’s happening in other sports. In the NBA, they have four months, they play 82 games in the regular season, plus the play-offs. Léon Marchand (in swimming) didn't go to the world championships, Antoine Dupont went on vacation for two months, he went to Miami, he went everywhere, he came back, peacefully.

In reality, Antoine Dupont had 10 weeks of full vacation with , which was interspersed with several visits to Stadistes training on a voluntary basis and physical preparation.

Mbappé obviously far ahead

When it comes to playing time, Mbappé is indeed far ahead. If we take from August 1, 2023 to August 1, 2024 (period which includes the 2023 World Cup for one and Euro 2024 for the other), the footballer has almost twice as many minutes played, in all competitions and teams confused. 5003 minutes for the Madrilenian, 1820 minutes for the Toulouse native.

Last season, Dupont played roughly the same amount of time as his competitor at the position Paul Graou (four minutes less over the entire season to be exact). Beyond the raw figure between the footballer and the rugby player, it is a comparison which obviously has its limits: the efforts of the two disciplines are nevertheless different. And Antoine Dupont having participated in four rugby sevens tournaments, the Olympic Games included.
