FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY | Chris Bailey tracks a little bit of light snow

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -After a huge temp swing out there today, another blast of winter weather is on the way later tonight into Wednesday. This is likely to put a light snowfall down for parts of the Commonwealth for the 4th time already this winter.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

TODAY

  • Temps spike deep into the 60s across the east and southeast. I can’t rule out 70 in a few spots. Wow!
  • At the same time, a cold front is pushing into the west with temps dropping into the low 40s. Wow!
  • Winds are gusty as showers break out and roll through from southwest to northeast.

TONIGHT

  • Cold air crashes in from west to east with temps falling to the upper 20s and low 30s
  • A band of light snow develops in the west and rolls eastward by morning.
  • That band thickens the farther east it gets as low pressure develops just to our east.
  • Light snow is likely across the eastern half of the state by morning.

WEDNESDAY

  • Light snow starts the day in eastern Kentucky.
  • Light accumulations of an inch or two will be possible. There is the chance of a touch more if things come together better than I currently think.
  • This band of light snow moves out fairly quickly with skies even brightening for a bit.
  • A potent upper-level disturbance then moves in during the afternoon and evening.
  • That brings streaks of light snow and snow showers zipping from west to east. There’s even a snow squall possible.
  • These hit and run streaks can put down some light accumulations as they move through.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT

  • A Few flurries continue to fly
  • Temps reach the upper teens in some areas.
  • Wind chills by Thursday morning can hit the single digits.
