“You didn't have to do that…”

After his interview in Clique, Kylian Mbappé faces unexpected criticism, even from former big names in PSG.

Kylian Mbappé, accustomed to shining in the field, recently speaks outside the sports framework during an interview broadcast on Clique. If this intervention has aroused a lot of interest and affected a large audience, it was not unanimous, especially with a former PSG player.

A speech that divides

David Ginola, an emblematic figure of French football, delivered his clear opinion on this approach. For him, this media outing was not only useless, but also risky for a player of this scale. He deplores that Mbappé felt the need to justify himself publicly.

“I find it well because the player's name goes beyond the frame of the green rectangle and affects a lot of people. But, I find it unhappy that we are going in a program, talking informally ”, said Ginola before adding:
“He is not obliged to do so, he has no accounts to be rendered.”

Mbappé continues to feed the discussions.

A star above justifications?

Ginola has also highlighted disproportionate expectations around Mbappé's notoriety. For him, the pressure from the public and the media should not force a player of this caliber to explain his choices or his moods. “We are in a country where we do or get defeated. He has proven in the past that he is a huge player, and there he crosses an empty passage ”, he explained, before concluding: “Notoriety does not imply that it must justify itself.”

These statements, although critical, show a certain benevolence towards the Bondynois, but they ask a substantive question: should a player of this level really participate in informal interviews?

Canal+ in a delicate position

By speaking thus, Ginola indirectly challenges a strong initiative of Canal+, which orchestrated this exclusive interview with Mbappé. If Hervé Mathoux, presenter of the show, was not of the same opinion, he praised the relevance of Ginola's words, recalling that the debate remains open.
