The leader of La France insoumise (LFI), Jean-Luc Mélenchon, warned his left-wing partners, who are due to meet at 2 p.m. at the Elysée with representatives of the right and the center, against the political cost of a rupture of the New Popular Front. “If the NFP is destroyed by our partners rallying behind Macron, we know that it will cost us”warned the leader of LFI in front of several media, including Agence France-Presse. “But, conversely, who thinks they can win a single seat without us? »he warned.
“Our allies are afraid. We are the opposite, we are not afraid of being in a historic moment. Do they realize the underperformance of what they are doing? Emmanuel Macron uses them and gains points with each passing hour”estimated the former socialist senator, whose troops categorically refuse to discuss with the right and the center post-Barnier. “I'm worried. Normally they went to the meeting at the Elysée with the intention of slamming the door”he hoped. “Why do they need to provide proof to Macron that they are in good faith? »
He also estimated that in the event of a presidential election an alliance between LFI and the PS would be impossible, but did not close the door to an agreement with other left-wing parties, notably the Ecologists. “A joint candidacy remains possible for the presidential election […] We know very well that this will not be possible with the socialists, but the other two remain. The shortest distance for us is with the Environmentalists”estimated Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is pushing for the resignation of Emmanuel Macron.
However, he refuses for the moment to officially declare himself a candidate, if the president were to leave his post. “I’m thinking. It's a very heavy role. […] But there are exciting aspects too, exceptional circumstances”he argued.
