Ciryl Gane had an explanation for his disappointing performance at UFC 310.
The one-time interim heavyweight champion gutted out a split decision win over Alexander Volkov in their rematch this past Saturday, utilizing a wrestling-heavy gameplan that was in stark contrast to the French striker’s previous appearances. In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Gane expressed said he wasn’t happy with how he fought and mentioned that he injured his toes in the first round.
On Monday, Gane shared X-rays of his foot injury on social media.

In his Instagram Stories, Gane also wrote that it wasn’t only his toe that was injured, but also two metatarsals, which he marked in the above screenshot. Gane claims that the foot was essentially useless to him from that point forward.
The scoring of the bout was highly contentious, with two of the judges scoring the first two rounds for Volkov. MMA Fighting scored the fight live 30-27 for Volkov, and 19 of 20 media scores on MMA Decisions also had it in Volkov’s favor.
Regardless of the scoring controversy, Gane officially moved to 2-0 in his series with Volkov and improved his UFC record to 10-2.
