Weather: 50 centimeters of snow in NRW? Expert speaks plainly

Is the big weather change coming or isn’t it coming? After the onset of winter in November, the snow forecasts of the past few days have already caused a cheering mood among fans of the white splendor.

According to Dominik Jung, up to 50 centimeters of fresh snow was calculated by individual weather models at higher altitudes in North Rhine-Westphalia. Some flakes should also come down at lower altitudes. According to the weather expert, the latter is still possible. But will the half-meter-thick snow cover in the Eifel remain?

Weather change in North Rhine-Westphalia: expert rows back

Yes, it’s getting colder after a stormy second weekend in Advent. The meteorologists agree on this. On the back of the stormy gusts that will sweep over North Rhine-Westphalia on Saturday (December 7th), polar air is moving into the country.

Temperatures in parts of the country will fall below freezing as early as Sunday night. At the beginning of the week, the values barely managed to get above freezing point. But it doesn’t go quite as steeply downhill as feared. According to the weather expert, snow at lower altitudes is rather the exception. And if so, then only at night. At lower altitudes, “typical bad weather” is to be expected.

  • Friday: 7 to 10 degrees, at night 5 to 2 degrees
  • Saturday: 5 to 9 degrees, at night 2 to -2 degrees
  • Sunday: 3 to 6 degrees, at night 2 to -3 degrees

Is there still snow falling in NRW?

A solid snow cover is more likely in the south of the republic. According to Dominik Jung (“wetter.net”), the only exception until Thursday (December 12th) would be the higher altitudes of the Sauerland. Up to 19 centimeters of new snow is still expected here.
