MrBeast claims Elon Musk asked him if people still refer to X as Twitter

A clip featuring Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, discussing an encounter with Elon Musk has gained significant attention on social media. In the clip, the YouTube star claims that Musk asked him if people still refer to the social media platform, X, as Twitter. The billionaire had rebranded Twitter to X in July 2023.

The clip is from MrBeast’s recent appearance on This Past Weekend with Theo Vonreleased on December 4, 2024. During the episode, the content creator talked about his hypothetical plans to run for US President in the future.

When Von asked if he had ever interacted with Musk, MrBeast recounted meeting him at the Super Bowl, where the businessman supposedly asked him if people still called X by its old name, Twitter:

“We bumped into each other at the Super Bowl. I think he asked me, I think, ‘Do people call X Twitter still or do they call it X?'”

The internet personality supposedly answered the question:

“Yeah, most people call it Twitter I’ve noticed. He was like, ‘Interesting.'”

Exploring MrBeast and Elon Musk’s relationship

MrBeast has maintained a good relationship with Elon Musk, engaging in social media banter over the past year. Musk showed interest in the YouTuber during his efforts to monetize content on X. He even requested him to create content for the platform.

Initially, the internet personality declined, citing the high cost of video production. However, he later began re-uploading old YouTube videos on X to test if the platform’s new monetization features made it viable.

At the time, Elon Musk had commended MrBeast and even reposted the videos to his followers to increase engagement.

The clip of MrBeast discussing X with Elon Musk has gone viral, with many viewers joking about it. Some brought up the fact that the YouTuber refers to himself as the “X Super Official CEO” in his bio on the platform.

Additionally, his pinned post on X features a back-and-forth with Musk about taking over the platform if the billionaire were to pass away “under mysterious circumstances.”
