Quarterfinals and club record in sight!

With seven wins in a row, Eintracht travels to the cup round of 16 in Leipzig. Even if the SGE does not want to fully assume the role of favorites, the current form speaks clearly for the Hessians: unbeaten for nine games, all won the last seven and in second place in the table. At RB Leipzig, however, things are not going well at all. The Bulls only got one point from their last six games across all competitions. The 1:5 against VfL Wolfsburg was the heaviest home defeat in the club’s young history. “We have another chance to experience success tomorrow. That’s what we need for our feelings and to calm everything down a bit. But only we can create and change that, we all have to have this awareness.”explains RB coach Marco Rose.

“We know it will be a difficult game. If you look at Leipzig’s first team, it’s a really good team, but we also have a strong team and want to survive the winter in the DFB Cup. We feel well prepared and are really excited.”Dino Toppmöller looks at the demanding round of 16. With 26 points, SGE is in second place in the table, RB is in fourth place with five points less. Eintracht was able to prevail in the cup against Braunschweig and Gladbach, Leipzig was successful against Essen and St. Pauli.

The game kicks off on Wednesday, December 4th at 8:45 p.m. in the Red Bull Arena. Referee Sven Jablonski will take charge of the game. “Sky”, “ZDF” and “Eintracht FM” broadcast live.

Facts about the game

Eintracht have only lost two of their last eleven games against RB Leipzig (W4, D6). In addition, the SGE is in the round of 16 for the third time in a row – that has only happened once in this millennium. Eintracht won six of 19 games against RB.

Who is out?

Eintracht Frankfurt: Aurele Amenda is out injured (syndesmosis ligament surgery), Arthur Theate is suspended.

RB Leipzig: Castello Lukeba (knee injury), David Raum (ligament injury), El Chadaille Bitshiabu (muscle injury), Lukas Klostermann (hamstring injury), Eljif Elmas (hamstring injury), Assan Ouedraogo (hamstring injury), Xavi Simons (ankle injury) and Yussuf Poulsen (hamstring injury ) missing injured.

Prospect: club record in sight

With its current form, the SGE should have a level of self-confidence that it hasn’t had for a long time. The SGE has been unbeaten since mid-October and has won all of its last seven games. “There is great energy in the group. Everyone is 100 percent involved in training.”Toppmöller explains the strong performances of the last few weeks. Even though Leipzig are currently lagging behind their best and many players are injured, RB’s starting eleven is still of high quality. The East Germans are particularly strong in the DFB Cup. Since promotion in 2017, the club, founded in 2009, has won four of five round of 16 games. Only in 2019/2020 did the bulls fail at the SGE. The last cup duel between both teams was the 2023 final, which the SGE lost 0-2. The Hessians can also set a club record in Leipzig, as Frankfurt Eintracht has never managed to win eight competitive games in a row.

“Everyone is interested in being there!”

Since Theate is suspended, the in-form Nene Brown should move to the left defense and Ansgar Knauff in the starting eleven. Ellyes Skhiri and Hugo Larsson are in impressive form and leave little to be desired at the moment. Despite the strong Nnamdi Collins, the choice at right back should fall on Rasmus Kristensen, who can bring his experience and physicality against Leipzig. The choice will once again not be easy for the SGE trainer: “The squad nominations are difficult because everyone wants to be there. The boys push each other.” Farés Chaibi was positive against Heidenheim and will be one of the first substitutes. In order to move into the next round of the cup, the SGE should not underestimate their weak opponents and showcase Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitiké. Mario Götze and Knauff should get involved in the offensive game in order to create more danger in the dangerous zone.

Possible lineups

Eintracht Frankfurt: Trapp – Kristensen, Tuta, Koch, Brown – Götze, Skhiri, Larsson, Knauff – Marmoush, Ekitiké

RB Leipzig: Vandevoordt – Geertruida, Orban, Seiwald, Henrichs – Baumgartner, Haidara, Kampl, Nusa – Openda, Sesko
