Spain. “We have to keep our heads high”, procrastinates Bonadei after the heavy French setback

The coach of the French women's team Laurent Bonadei estimated on Tuesday December 3 that the Bleues still had “a little late” compared to Spain after a new defeat (4-2), the seventh of the year 2024.

“It must be recognized that in the use of the ball in small spaces, in the finishing zone, in the quality of passes, they showed more precision and serenity”explained Laurent Bonadei at a press conference.

“I think we are still a little behind, that we will continue the work at club and federation level”added the coach, who took “the decision to insist with three behind, which was daring, I am going to sit down and think a little”.

“I encourage people to come”

Les Bleues had not conceded four goals in all competitions since March 2018 (4-1 against England), and lost a seventh match in 2024, a record in a calendar year.

“It’s seven matches too many but we will give ourselves the means to do better”he replied, and “I have no criticism to make of the players”.

“We have to keep our heads held high. The Blues gave a lot, they showed intensity, they were quickly penalized on the first attack and on the second Spanish strike”he admitted, and “the Spanish managed to keep this advantage” throughout the match.

Asked about the three-quarters empty stadium with 6,000 people at the Allianz Riviera, Laurent Bonadei estimated that “Women's football deserved to be seen more when there are players who give themselves on the pitch with a remarkable state of mind”. “I encourage people to come and I am not going to fall into fatalism”he insisted.

Putting Katoto, Cascarino and Lakrar on the bench, “I made the choice to give the chance to as many players as possible, I am satisfied with some and others must progress”explained the coach.
