After a short sampling phase, an electrifying cup game developed in Munich’s Allianz Arena. There were emotions early on in the game, and after Manuel Neuer was sent off (17th), they became increasingly high. Despite being outnumbered, Bayern were the more compelling team and were particularly dangerous from set pieces. The headers from Coman (34th), Goretzka (43rd) and Kim (45th + 1) are considered great opportunities. Leverkusen then became dangerous through Florian Wirtz. The national player, who started as a false nine, missed twice in the first half (11th, 44th) and set up Leverkusen’s biggest opportunity to date through Frimpong (32nd).

As wild as the first half was, the game flattened out after the break. Opportunities were in short supply for a long time – before Nathan Tella, out of nowhere, headed the double winner to victory (69th). With the last action of the game, Michael Olise aimed just wide before referee Harm Osmers blew the whistle.
Tor
0:1 Tella (69.): After a long period of possession, Grimaldo decided to cross from the half field on the left, quite unchallenged. Tella runs in and converts with her head.

The scene of the game
Red card Neuer (17th): Tah’s long ball into the path of Frimpong causes Neuer to escape from his goal. The Dutchman gets to the ball in front of the keeper and is then cleared away by Neuer. Referee Osmers sent the five-time world goalkeeper off the field with a red card for the first time in his career. Bayern’s regular number three Daniel Peretz comes on and then carries out his task properly.
The man of the match: Nathan Tella
In 2023, Bayer brought the offensive man from England as a luxury transfer for the bank for 23 million euros. Since then, Tella has always had to leave the big stage to others – this time he stepped into the spotlight himself. Substituted for the injured Schick in the 61st minute, Tella’s big moment came eight turns later when he headed Bayer to victory. FT-Grade: 2. Strong at Bayern: Joshua Kimmich.

The flop of the game: Manuel Neuer
Defensive actions outside of his own box are actually Neuer’s trademark. But this time the 38-year-old came out of his box too late from a position that was too deep. That was the decisive scene of the game – and Neuer was the flop of the evening. FT-Note: 5.
