“We’re getting smoked”: Cnam prices, patient transport… why have taxi drivers been demonstrating for several days?

More than 200 taxi drivers gathered this Monday, December 2 in in the department. The latter protested against the new prices that the National Health Insurance Fund wants to impose and which would represent a drop in their turnover of 30 to 40%. If the motions of censure tabled by the NFP and the RN are not validated this Wednesday, December 4, the artisans could settle in the streets for a much longer period.

Due to the enormous deficit in its health branch in 2024, around 15 billion euros, Social Security is trying to make savings as best it can. According to 3more than 6 billion euros are dedicated each year to patient transport. The Fund has therefore decided to reduce its reimbursements to approved carriers for the year 2025.

Furthermore, the CNAM intends to increase shared transport so that several patients are transported together to health establishments. A point which, again, makes approved taxis cringe.

“We need to be heard”

This Monday, December 2, the president of the taxi union accepted the decision not to join, for the moment, the various gatherings of his colleagues. Today, Tuesday December 3, he explains that he is still waiting for a possible motion of censure of this bill. “Anything can happen” summarizes Fabrice Cavallera.

While members of the Nice union met this morning at the airport, he warned: “If the motion of censure is not passed, we will be in the streets from Friday”. Obviously, the president of Taxi Nice Riviera hopes not to have to demonstrate. “We really don't want to get to that point, but we can't wait any longer. We have to be heard, we're getting smoked.”

If this scenario were to materialize, Fabrice Cavallera should favor gatherings at the local level: “I am not in favor of going to . The watchword will be to stay in the department.” On the other hand, in the event that the motion of censure is voted on, it will be necessary “get to work as soon as the new government is in place”, concludes the trade unionist.
