After a period of exceptional mildness, a clear change in weather is brewing in France. According to Weather Francefall disruptions marked by heavy rain, strong winds and snowfall are expected from Thursday December 5. Temperatures begin to drop significantly from the weekend.
The week begins under still relatively calm conditions, but things will change radically from Thursday, December 5, warns Météo France. Rain, wind and snow: widespread degradation is on the way. A first active disturbance will reach the North-West, bringing sustained rain and violent winds. It will be quickly followed by a second wave during the night from Thursday to Friday, extending the bad weather to a large part of France.
The Mediterranean basin will not be spared, with gusts of mistral and tramontane reaching 80 km/h. This context will favor significant precipitation, particularly in the South. The Pyrenees are expected to receive the first notable snowfall of the season, with a rain-snow limit between 1,300 and 1,500 meters.
A weekend marked by storms and cold
From Saturday, a hollow depression coming from the British Isles will further agitate the sky. Intense gusts of wind are expected throughout the territory, accompanied by copious rain.
The rear of this depression will cause a sudden drop in temperatures on Sunday, giving way to cold air from the North-West. This cooling could cause snowy episodes down to low altitudes, particularly in the north-east of the country, where the phenomenon should be closely monitored. These disrupted weather conditions are expected to persist for the following week, reinforcing the impression of a late but vigorous autumn.
