Volunteer Center Lelystad thanks all volunteers

Volunteer work is at the heart of our society. Thanks to the efforts of the many volunteers in our city, our community thrives and we can support each other in good and difficult times. That is why Volunteer Center Lelystad thanks all Lelystad volunteers on National Volunteer Day.

From (informal) care and neighborhood assistance to sports clubs and other great initiatives: volunteer work ensures that people feel seen, heard and helped. It contributes to social cohesion and strengthens mutual solidarity in our municipality. In these times, when society is increasingly looking for connection and a sense of community, volunteers play an essential role.

For yourself and others

“Volunteering is not only an opportunity to do something good, but also a great way to meet new people, learn new skills and develop yourself,” says Ludwig Bruins of Vrijwilligerscentrale Lelystad enthusiastically. ‘It is really very satisfying to see how someone brightens up or if you have been able to help in some other way’.

Impact in the city

‘Volunteers are the strong shoulders of our society,’ says councilor Annemieke Messelink-Dijkstra. ‘Whether you are committed to the sports club, go for a walk with a resident of a nursing home or help with an event; as a volunteer you contribute to a stronger and more connected society’.

Visibility of volunteer work

To thank Lelystad volunteers, the Volunteer Center has come up with a fun campaign. ‘We have sent a campaign kit to all social organizations affiliated with our platform with posters and stickers in which we thank the volunteers. With these posters we can jointly increase the visibility of volunteer work in Lelystad,” says Ludwig. ‘And we have asked the councilor to hand over the first kit to Woonzorg Flevoland’. Greet Koelewijn, volunteer coordinator, received the kit.

Volunteer center

The Volunteer Center – part of Welzijn Lelystad – is the broad platform for all volunteer work in Lelystad and is available to all city residents. Doing volunteer work offers many benefits. It is good for your health, you stay fit longer and you meet new people. It is also very rewarding and meaningful to do volunteer work, because you can really be of significance to someone else. The Volunteer Center encourages all forms of voluntary efforts.
