Disruptions are expected this Thursday in several services in France. Almost all public service unions (CGT, CFDT, Unsa, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP) are calling for a national day « d’action » and of ” strike ” on December 5, 2024, to block the 1.2 billion euros in savings planned in the administration by the government for the 2025 budget.

“Wage freeze, 3,155 job cuts, waiting days, contempt and teacher-bashing… There are many reasons for the anger among staff”writes FSU-SNUipp in a press release. FO, the second largest union for the entire public service, did not join this declaration and maintained a call for a three-day renewable strike “at the same time as the railway workers’ strike”.
The movement is expected to disrupt the operation of many services on Thursday. West France takes stock.
In schools
There should be consequences in Education, where the unions have called to follow the inter-union strike call. Sud Éducation, for example, filed a strike notice extending from November 21 to January 20, 2025 for “all staff working in schools, services and educational establishments”. This includes professors, teacher-researchers, but also educational staff or ministries relating to Education and the Civil Service.

In Strasbourg, for example, all school canteens in the city will be closed on Thursday due to the widespread strike by educational staff. The municipal police will also be mobilized.
In hospitals
Hospitals should also mobilize, within the framework of a renewable strike notice filed at the end of October. The nursing staff had notably denounced the change to three days of waiting time and the reduction in compensation for sick leave. HAS In Villeurbanne, for example, caregivers at the Charpennes hospital have already announced a strike.
In administrative services
We must also expect disruptions to administrative services in town halls, departmental and regional councils, but also those provided by the Tax and Public Finance Centers. The municipal police will also be mobilized.
And in the energy sector
In addition to civil servants, the CGT, CFE-CGC, CFDT and FO called “all companies in the electricity and gas sector” to a mobilization Thursday, December 5. They are protesting against their salary negotiations, which started in the companies and are not “not up to standard” demands.
Coincidentally, a meeting of the energy branch body is scheduled for the same day. But the mobilization should not have significant consequences for the public.
