Tick-tock tick-tock, the end-of-year holidays are fast approaching and in one of Santa's workshops, activity is running at full speed. In Guise in Aisne, a recycling center specializing in toys, called Recycl'jouets, repairs, cleans and prepares gifts to fill the base of the tree in order to give joy to well-behaved children.
The association prepares six months before Christmas and this deadline is not insignificant. Since August and to optimize their schedule before the end-of-year holidays, each week, the association has been offering a collection for a specific toy. “We want to have as many choices as possible to please everyone. We are in full swing“, says Axelle Chrétien, supervisor within the association.
And the stars of the small sections of this recycling center are the timeless Playmobil and Lego, but also the dolls, board and activity games and even children's kitchens. In this integration project, 22 people work to restore the shine to these toys.
Cleaning, electronic and technical verification… Nothing is forgotten. “And they keep up“, assures the supervisor. These toys come mainly from donations. “In particular, we carry out collections in retirement homes, schools or high schools, for example.“, underlines Axelle Chrétien.
With prices ranging from 3 to 10 euros, Santa now knows how to garnish the base of the tree at a low price in the spirit of the solidarity economy. According to an ADEME study, published in 2022, 81% of French people buy gifts at Christmas, including 14% who buy second-hand products.
