While many taxi drivers gather this Monday, December 2 in the Var department, it is dead calm in the Alpes-Maritimes. For Fabrice Cavallera, president of the Nice taxi union, mobilization today would be “too rushed”. Nevertheless, the latter claims to remain “solidarity” with “the brave taxi drivers who take to the streets”.
Although some drivers from the Alpes-Maritimes are currently present at the various gatherings in Var and Bouches-du-Rhône, for Fabrice Cavallera, the time has come for patience. “I'm not saying that we won't go out, but a lot of things can happen today. By tomorrow morning, we will make the decision whether or not to mobilize in the Alpes-Maritimes” explains this trade unionist. Regarding these colleagues already present in the demonstrations, he adds: “Well done to them. I can only understand the taxis who all want to take to the street. They are there as a preventative measure. But for the moment, we have made the decision to wait.”
“Under no circumstances will we accept this agreement”
Despite everything, the situation can change very quickly. “If this afternoon, the PLFSS law passes without a motion of censure, we will be in the streets within 48 hours”says the president of Taxi Nice Riviera. Indeed, according to him, the convention currently being discussed in the Assembly would be “catastrophic”. “Under no circumstances will we accept this agreement which does not suit us. We cannot do differently” he adds.
Although absent from the taxi gathering, Fabrice Cavallera is not angry: “There is a lack of understanding among a large number of my colleagues because I am not at the mobilization today. I am trying to make it clear that my heart is with them. Usually, we try to limit our actions in the street , but now it is no longer possible, we cannot ask taxis to accept everything”, he scolds, before warning that in the event of mobilization, it could last a very long time.
