Elton John reveals he went blind

He no longer sees anything. After battling a severe eye infection this summer, which had already caused him to lose the use of his right eye, Elton John revealed this Sunday, December 1, that it had finally caused him to completely lose his sight. Guest at the premiere of the musical The devil wears Prada at the Dominion Theater in London, the 77-year-old British singer spoke about his recent health problems.

« To my husband, who has been my rock. I haven't been able to attend many previews because, as some of you may know, I've had some issues and now I've lost my eyesight. So I didn't get to see the performance but I loved listening to it “, he revealed as he took the stage accompanied by his husband David Furnish.

“I don’t see anything”

In an interview with Good Morning America on November 25, the pop legend confirmed that he contracted this eye infection in July 2024, while vacationing in the south of France. “ I have unfortunately lost vision in my right eye since July due to an eye infection I contracted when I was in the south of France »he explains.

« It's been four months and I still can't see. And my left eye isn't the best “, he added. Before concluding: « It floored me a bit, and I can't see anything. I'm a bit stuck at the moment. I can do interviews but I can't go to the studio and record because I can't even read my sheet music. […] I can't see or read anything. »

Elton John can, however, travel for some events. Just last month, he joined Dua Lipa on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in London to perform Cold Hearta duet recorded with the 29-year-old British singer. Even more recently, the latter met King Charles III at the Royal Variety Performance evening.
