The IOC President presented her diploma and OLY badge to New Zealand Tennis player Lulu Sun, who participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She also took part in the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games. The player then signed the Wall of the Olympians.
This week, the President delivered welcome addresses to the following IOC Commissions at their annual meetings held in hybrid mode at Olympic House: athletes; future host for the Winter Olympics; medical and scientific; Olympic education; Olympic program; Olympism365; revenues and commercial partnerships; and technology and technical innovation.
President Thomas Bach discussed various current Olympic issues in meetings with IOC members present at Olympic House for the IOC Commissions, as well as with Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the IOC Ethics Commission .
COMMISSIONS
The IOC Ethics Commission carried out the draw to determine the order in which the seven candidates for the IOC presidency will present their program to the IOC members. The presentations will take place during a closed meeting of IOC members scheduled for January 30, 2025 in Lausanne. The draw was carried out by a Lausanne notary on November 25. Through the Olympism365 Innovation Hub, the IOC will award USD 170,000 in grants to support 12 local projects using sport to promote social development within communities. Projects will receive support to develop, test and deploy local innovations that address pressing societal issues aligned with specific community needs, with a focus on equitable access to resources. Likewise, nine social enterprises will benefit from grants totaling USD 300,000 from the IOC, through this same hub. These grants are intended to support social enterprises – companies generating profits to finance social initiatives – which work on projects combining sport and development. On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), the IOC reaffirmed its commitment to safe sport by announcing the publication of its third declaration consensus on protection and interpersonal violence in sport. Published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM), the 2024 IOC Consensus Statement on Interpersonal Violence and Protection in Sport is based on a study that collected more than 24,000 testimonies in nine languages. The IOC Olympic Studies Center (OSC) has launched a new edition of the Advanced Olympic Research Fellowship Program aimed at established researchers engaged in research projects on Olympic issues. The main objective of this program is to promote advanced research from a human or social sciences perspective in priority research themes defined by the IOC. According to the Global Tennis Report 2024, published by the ITF, some 106 million people worldwide play tennis, an increase of 25.6% in five years. The report is the largest-ever global participation survey, with tennis associations from more than 199 countries providing data to provide insight into the current tennis landscape, from amateur players to professionals. World Sailing
World Sailing has officially launched its new strategy called “Ready for the Future”, which will help guide the sport from 2025 to 2029. Developed in collaboration with athletes, committee representatives and World Board members, among others. International Bandy Federation (FIB)
The FIB has launched its new website, designed to provide better service to its stakeholders and to reinforce the organization's commitment to transparency and open communication. This milestone reflects the IF’s efforts to modernize its digital infrastructure and create a platform for all things bandy. This is also part of the ongoing modernization of the organization as a whole. A strategic working group has already been set up, with the objective of development by 2034.
