Passe Navigo fake compensation scams are proliferating

All topics are ripe for a “good” scam. Scammers proliferate in France and compete in ingenuity to extract money from their victims. No one is spared, even the most cautious of us can be fooled. Thus, Actu.fr tells the story of Laurence, on December 1, 2024. This Parisian is alert and takes particular care not to fall into the trap of online thugs. However, one scam in particular did not arouse his suspicions.

It must be said that it was particularly well put together. It is that of the false compensation scam at Passe Navigo. Concretely, the scammers send a fairly detailed email which includes the elements of Île-de-France Mobilités. Laurence assures that she was not suspicious “because just before the Paris town hall had informed me of the upcoming reimbursement of my high school son’s Navigo Pass”. She clicks on a link in the body of the text which takes her to a platform to receive compensation due to the strikes and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

How can you avoid falling into the trap of thugs?

Arriving on a new page, she enters her username and password. He is then asked to provide personal information, including the numbers of his bank card. She does so. A doubt immediately comes to mind. She decides to alert her bank and does opposition. A good reflex no doubt, sinceActu.fr reports that Laurence realized some time later that the thugs tried to take control of her Île-de-France Mobilités account and her email box.

The organizing authority for mobility in the Ile-de-France region itself confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) that its customers could be the subject of scams. “A fake Navigo compensation email mentions the Paris 2024 Games: it’s a phishing attempt! When in doubt, never click on a link in an email”she says. To avoid being fooled by people with bad intentions, it is always better to log in to your account by going directly to the site in question.
