Knowing how to be patient can sometimes pay off… An Isère resident found his motorcycle on the online resale site 24 years after the machine was stolen. A valuable possession for this man, the motorcycle was purchased in 1929 by the family of its owner.
Quite a surprise: this is the feeling that must have gone through this Isère resident the day he found his stolen motorcycle in 2000 on the online resale site, 24 years after his disappearance. A mind-boggling story that he tells to Dauphiné Libéré. He explains in particular that he recognized it immediately: “I recognized it immediately thanks to specific elements. So you must never give up”confides Jean-Pierre Ricaud, the owner of the motorcycle.
This Peugeot 107 sport, 350 cm3 from 1929, was purchased in 1929. With a long history, it was even requisitioned during the Second World War to contribute to the war effort… A family memory that Jean-Claude had inherited from his uncle. A mechanic by profession, he had decided to repair the motorcycle. “When in 2000 the auto show asked Peugeot to exhibit it, we were very proud”he remembers. But the motorcycle was stolen the same year. Jean-Claude struggles to find her without ever succeeding in having the slightest lead.
The son of Jean-Claude Ricaud at the origin of the find
As the years go by, Jean-Claude loses hope of one day finding the machine. His son Tim, who is also now a mechanic, decides to continue the research.
Finally, Tim finds the bike on LeBoncoin this fall 2024… near the Côte-d'Or, 400 km from home. The seller was not aware that the motorcycle had been stolen because he had inherited it. Jean-Claude and his son Tim collect the motorcycle for free. A story with a happy ending.
