the security system will be “exceptional”, assures Laurent Nuñez

The Notre-Dame de cathedral will return to its public, more than five years after the fire which ravaged the monument. The reopening of the building will take place on the weekend of December 7 and 8. Festivities, including a ceremony with great pomp planned for Saturday, are planned. “Thousands” of members of the police will be mobilized in the capital for this event, confided Laurent Nuñez, interviewed by The Parisian. According to him, the security system will be “exceptional”.

We took a lot of inspiration from what we achieved during the Olympic opening ceremonyboth for the management of the ceremonies themselves and for the arrangements for welcoming the public and the regulatory security measures”, declared the Paris police prefect. Around fifty heads of state are expected in the capital at the occasion of the reopening of the cathedral.

In this interview with ParisianLaurent Nuñez underlines that this event is held in a context of “very high level of terrorist threat, as during the Olympics“To my knowledge, there was no real threat to the event,” said the Paris police prefect. Traffic restrictions will notably be put in place around the cathedral.

The cathedral can accommodate up to 3,000 people

The ceremonies will take place in the square in front of the cathedral, and access to this space will be extremely restricted.. Only guests, obviously not very numerous because the capacity of the cathedral is 3,000 people, will access the site,” indicated the former Secretary of State. The general public will have to wait until Sunday to be able to access Notre-Dame de Paris.

An anti-terrorist perimeter known as SILT (Internal security and the fight against terrorism)” will be put in place. The BIS (Research and Intervention Brigade) will be in “intervention reserve” and “precision shooters” will carry out “surveillance at high points”, also detailed the Paris police prefect.
