THE TOPS
Once again, OM's Argentinian goalkeeper was decisive. Despite the conceded goal, he was able to keep the team alive in weak times thanks to his decisive interventions.
He is THE player who animated our media this week, and he once again responded. Beyond his goal, his contribution in the right lane was very interesting. He was precise in keeping the ball and gave impetus to the Olympian offensives in the first half. He never stopped coming up with solutions in the second half. He probably had his best game in an OM jersey!
Apart from a dangerous attempt in the 19th minute of play, the Olympian striker had difficulty weighing on the Monegasque defense and suffered physically in the duels. However, we cannot take away his desire on the pitch. Note that he is decisive on Luis Henrique's goal, where he deflects the ball perfectly for his teammate, with great finesse and intelligence. He was replaced in the 74th minute of play. Still decisive!
After a very good first 40 minutes, he lost the ball on Monegasque's opener from Golovin. But as in Lens, he shone with his activity in midfield, notably recovering numerous possessions. His tenure once again made it possible to balance the team. It will be difficult to remove him from the eleven…
Mason Greenwood gained momentum throughout the match. At the start of the match, he lost two balls, including one which led to Monaco's first opportunity. He then tried to bring danger to the opposing defense, like his shot well taken by Majecki, the Monegasque goalkeeper, in the second half (63rd). The Englishman also perfectly transformed the penalty, synonymous with victory for OM. He leaves his place to Bilal Nadir in the last moments of the match. If he takes a lot of risks, his 28 ball losses tarnish his copy.
Often criticized in this central defender role, he seems much more comfortable in this three-way defense. This evening, the former Monegasque was very good. Ultimately, De Zerbi may have done well to insist on this positioning. Time will tell.
At times hesitant in his restarts, he nevertheless knew how to gain the upper hand over Balogun. He was also solid in the duels, making the necessary impact to reassure his defense. Not his best game, but he's the boss behind it.
Aligned as a left piston, he displayed good activity, both defensively and offensively. Defensively, he managed to contain Vanderson's surges effectively.
Perhaps less prominent than his teammate Valentin Rongier in midfield, the Dane nevertheless had a satisfactory match and responded when OM needed his leadership after the equalizer and Greenwood's goal.
A second entry, this time in added time. Note that he was preferred to Koné for this rotation, as in Lens.
A solid performance defensively, despite a few errors. In this right central role in a three-way defense, he concentrates mainly on his defensive tasks and does not have to contribute offensively, which seems to suit him. But he did it once and to get the penalty at the very end of the match!
Unlike his match in Lens, where he was omnipresent, the French international was much more discreet this evening in Monaco. He was nevertheless valuable in complicated moments for OM, putting a lot of impact in midfield and scratching some crucial balls. His first half leaves something to be desired. His repositioning lower in the 2nd period did him good.
A very average entry for the left piston, who is struggling to physically come back from his injury and who seems completely short of rhythm. To his credit a certain desire to play with a touch which did a little good. But he had a hard time…
A difficult entry for the OM scorer, who tried to make an effort but fell against strong opponents who still had juice. In these situations, he finds it difficult to exist.
