Illness on the pitch in Serie A, Bove is not the first case: what a scare for Ndicka in April

December 1st – 11.54pm – MILANO

The tears of the players, the ambulance and the silence of Artemio Franchi. After Edoardo Bove lost consciousness during the championship match between Fiorentina and Inter, the Viola club released the first statement regarding the player's condition in the last few hours: “He is currently under pharmacological sedation hospitalized in intensive care. Bove arrived stable from a haemodynamic point of view“. But the one born in 2002 is not the first illness on a Serie A pitch. The last one dates back to last April, when Evan Ndicka collapsed to the ground, touching his chest.

THE EPISODE

Udinese-Roma, minute 72. The match is blocked at 1-1. Suddenly, however, Ndicka stops, then lies down on the lawn of the Bluenergy Stadium. The hand massages the chest, referee Pairetto immediately lets the medical staff in. On the Giallorossi bench Daniele De Rossi fears the worst, silence falls on the stadium. But the defender's gesture of approval a few meters before leaving the field on a stretcher reassures the fans. A few minutes later the match was suspended, while Ndicka was rushed to hospital.

THE EXAMS

The sigh of relief will only come in the following hours. The results of the tests are clear: chest trauma with minimal pneumothorax. No heart attack in progress, heart problems averted. That day in Udine it was a pain caused by possible pulmonary compression linked to some blow received during the match. Thus, Ndicka obtained the eligibility to resume sporting activities following tests carried out at Villa Stuart which excluded the presence of pathologies.
