Bus accident in Porté-Puymorens: “I opened a psychological unit for the survivors”, announces Mayor Jean-Philippe Augé

Faced with the urgency of the situation, the elected representative of Porté-Puymorens, who was among the first to the scene of the accident this Sunday, December 1, 2024, is providing survivors and families with psychological support installed in the holiday center of his municipality.

“It is a tragedy whose full extent we cannot yet, for the moment, measure, Jean-Philippe Augé, the mayor of Porté-Puymorens where the accident took place, testified this Sunday evening. Of the 47 passengers present on the Spanish bus – people who had come from Barcelona to spend a day in Andorra and Pas de la Casa and were returning home – there would be at least 2 deaths, 5 in absolute emergency and 7 in relative urgency. But we must always be careful when we talk about the human toll.”

He specifies : “what I can tell you is that the road in question, the RN320, is not known to be particularly accident-prone. It is certainly narrow and the descent curve a little sharp, but so far has not never been the cause of accidents of this seriousness.

Recalling the major security system put in place, with at least 120 Catalan firefighters supported by their Aude and Ariège counterparts and bombers from Catalonia and Andorra, Jean-Philippe Augé announced that he had, for his part, implemented disposal of survivors and families “a psychological cell” within the holiday center of his municipality.

He also advises the families of the passengers of the damaged bus to contact the Pyrénées-Orientales Prefecture to get news of their loved ones.
