The 30 hours of Telethon 2024 have just ended at the national level with a total of 79,801,520 euros. In the Pyrénées-Orientales, 122,907 euros were raised thanks to the generosity and solidarity of its inhabitants. However, you must not give up: 36 37 remains open until Friday December 6, 2024.
The Téléthon 66 stand, set up for two days – Friday November 29 and Saturday November 30 – on the Galeries Lafayette square in Perpignan was always full. Mission similarly accomplished thanks to associative initiatives scattered throughout Perpignan and elsewhere in the department. Thus, on Friday afternoon, for example, a sale of confectionery took place at the school restaurant of the Charles-Renouvier school in Perpignan.
In Saint-Nazaire, a city which has shown itself to be particularly active, committed and supportive of this great national cause, the Rando Marche club had organized a march that same Friday with departure and arrival at the town hall square, all for a participation of 5 euros per person. But also a 2-hour non-stop race… By scooter. Or, a dancing meal offered by the Festival Committee at the Cortie space. And this Sunday 1is December, a large rifle developed in partnership with village associations took place at the Cortie space. Elsewhere, other events made it possible to donate all of the profits to the benefit of the Telethon and thus participate in helping to finance medical research.
Far from the historic record of the 2023 Telethon
In fact, the 2024 counter in the department closed on Saturday evening with pledges of donations displayed at 122,907 euros. Which places the Pyrénées-Orientales at 4e rank of the departments of the Occitanie region, after Haute-Garonne (476,740 euros), Hérault (386,897 euros) and Gard (233,214 euros). However, if the 2024 balance sheet almost rose to the level of 2022 with €123,100 collected that year, it remains well below that of 2023 which posted a historic record of…598,000 euros! Same observation this year at the national level with 79,801,520 euros which fell into the hands of the French Association against myopathies. As a reminder, the 2023 Telethon raised 124.1 million euros.
Suffice to say that we must not release the pressure*. Because if the victories are more and more numerous – and in particular, in 2024 thanks to the great progress against Duchêne muscular dystrophy, an emblematic disease of the creation of the Telethon already 37 years ago – the families confronted with the urgency of the illness keep hope more than ever in the generosity of their compatriots.
