The controversy surrounding the Coupe de France match between Bolbec and Caen, finally played at the Michel-d'Ornano stadium after numerous venue changes, resulted in a logical 6-0 victory for the Stade Malherbe, which had initially requested 84 000 euros to fans to make their stadium available – which was nevertheless chosen by the authorities, ultimately, for security reasons. Coach Lokman Cakmak still appreciates “a magnificent experience” for his Regional 1 team, the sixth national level: “We had lots of twists and turns, but it's incredible to play in a stadium like that, even if we would have liked it to be more full.”
Cakmak: “Players have memories until the end of their lives”
The Seine-Maritime club (between Le Havre and Rouen), located a little over an hour's drive from today's destination, has arranged to arrive half an hour early so that the players can take photos and videos: “The players had a lot of fun, they have lots of memories until the end of their lives.” And the local supporters, at the departure of their protégés, had already come to sing songs of encouragement at the side of the road.
“Playing at D'Ornano can also be an adventure,” the opposing coach Nicolas Seube prophesied before the match, especially happy not to have to travel on a dangerous synthetic pitch according to him. And it is therefore this idea which nevertheless emerged, indeed, from the match played in front of an honest crowd of 1,377 spectators. “We would have liked to come with a crowded stadium, but financially it was not possible for our club, concludes Lokman Cakmak. This missed goal, at home on a small pitch, we could have scored and made Stade Malherbe doubt a little …” It was for a possibility of equalizing at 1-1, at the end of the first period. “But the players came with pleasure and enjoyed the moment with their family, that’s also the magic of the Cup.”
