VfB is not very successful in the stress of traveling and away from home. An advantage for Werder from 3:30 p.m.? The only thing that is certain is that it won’t be a clean slate at the Weser Stadium.
1. A duel with a guaranteed goal on the Weser
VfB Stuttgart visited Werder Bremen 55 times in the Bundesliga and always scored at least one goal, so there was never a 0-0 draw on the Weser. In the last 30 home games against Stuttgart, Bremen always scored, and overall the Hanseatic League scored the most home goals against VfB (117) – including the away goals, Werder was the most successful against the Swabians (185 times).
2. At Werder, the goal is a second home win
Bremen only got a third of their points at the Weser Stadium this season (five out of 15) and are in 14th place in the home table. Only four goals were scored at home. A late joker goal from Oliver Burke gave Werder their only home win of the season on matchday 10; the 27-year-old Scot scored against Kiel in the 89th minute to make it 2-1. The Hanseatic League last celebrated two home wins in a row over a year ago – in September 2023, first against Mainz (4-0) and then against Cologne (2-1).
3. Stuttgart wants to end its away spell
VfB Stuttgart have not won away from home in their last three Bundesliga games and have even failed to score twice away from home. In the 4-0 defeat at Bayern (7th matchday) and the 0-0 draw in Leverkusen (9th matchday), the Swabians only fired a total of nine unsuccessful shots on goal. The Swabians’ only Bundesliga away win this season came on matchday 3 in Mönchengladbach (3-1).
4. Auswärtsdreierpack: Hoeneß team in travel stress
For VfB Stuttgart there are three away games in a row on the agenda and all within just seven days! Three days after the Champions League game in Belgrade, the Swabians will now play in the Bundesliga against Werder Bremen and another three days later in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against Jahn Regensburg.
5. Cross specialist Weiser makes the hundred
One of Bremen’s cross specialists from the right is Mitchell Weiser, who has already prepared a goal with a cross from play eleven times in his Bundesliga career (two of them this season in Augsburg and Wolfsburg). The 30-year-old moved from Leverkusen to the then second division club Werder Bremen in the summer of 2021. Now Weiser is about to play his 100th competitive game for the Hanseatic League.
