Bissonnette described the ordeal on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast. He said he’s a regular of the Houston’s on Scottsdale Road and had just ordered a salad when he noticed the staff dealing with a commotion near the bar.

“Maybe I felt more of a connection because I go to this Houston’s restaurant three or four times a week, and [staff members] are always so kind to me that I felt the need at that point to step in,” he said.

Bissonnette said several men in golf shirts were upset the staff wouldn’t serve them drinks, and the men were getting physically aggressive towards the managers.

According to police, Bissonnette tried to calm down the men and “get them to leave.”

“I get up and I go over, and I walk over, I grab the guy’s arm. I said, ‘Listen, buddy, if you keep harassing and assaulting the staff here, we’re gonna go outside and we’re gonna have some problems,‘“ he recounted. ”The minute that left my mouth, the guy beside him starts throwing punches.”

The former NHL left winger says he traded blows for a while inside the bar, and the fight spilled outside into the parking lot.

Arresting documents say that surveillance footage showed three or four men assaulting Bissonnette outside the restaurant, including one who police say tackled him to the ground. When Bissonnette tried to run away, the police report says Daley held him to the ground and kicked his head and neck area.

At that point, Daley also tried to kick him again but “missed and fell backwards,” the paperwork said, giving Bissonnette a chance to get up and run to a nearby business.

“If you get caught on the ground, they’re gonna start kicking you in the head, and if you go unconscious, you don’t know what the consequences are,” Bissonnette said. “I ate three kicks. One in the neck, two in the head. Was able to get up, and now at this point, I have no shoes on. I got my pants, no shirt. And I finally am able to run in the CVS.”

In court documents, police say Daley left the scene and was arrested at a nearby hotel. Officers searched his wallet and found a military ID that appeared to be fraudulent. When officers asked about the card, Daley reportedly admitted that it was fake but didn’t elaborate further.

Daley said he was visiting from out of state and was planning to leave the day after. He was booked into jail and released on his own recognizance. Court records listed his address in Lubbock, Texas, about 120 miles from Amarillo and 480 miles west of Austin.

Bissonnette was taken to a nearby hospital for further evaluation but was believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

All six men are facing disorderly conduct charges.

Bissonnette played for the Phoenix Coyotes from 2009 to 2014 before the team changed its name to the Arizona Coyotes.
