Restored and partly rebuilt after the fire of 2019, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral is ready to shine, for its reopening on December 8. France Télévisions offers you a taste of its new appearance.
Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral is preparing to reopen its doors to the public and the faithful on December 8. Bright, lit by a row of thirteen chandeliers dating from the 19th century, with its 2,500 m² of blue stained glass, its organ, the largest in France, and in its choir the statue of the weeping Virgin receiving the body of Christ, the Pietà , the cathedral is ready to welcome visitors. New, a contemporary bronze altar sits opposite the statue.
The twenty-three chapels of the monument have regained their flamboyant colors, imagined by the architect Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century. In one of them is the new box designed for the relics of Christ's Crown of Thorns, which will return to their case for the reopening.
