the former director of Sciences Po and his ex-partner sentenced

Respectively five and eight months suspended prison sentence. This is the sentence to which Mathias Vicherat, former director of Sciences Po , and his ex-partner, the director Anissa Bonnefont, were sentenced. They were found guilty of domestic violence by the Paris criminal court this Friday, November 29, 2024.

Mathias Vicherat, whom the affair had pushed to resign in March, after three years at the head of the prestigious Parisian higher education establishment, was accused of two acts of violence against his former partner – strangulation and a broken wrist. Anissa Bonnefont, for her part, was appearing for “regular violence” against the former director of Sciences Po, whom she had met in October 2021.

An argument that escalates

On December 3, 2023, a violent argument broke out between the couple, who had not lived together for several weeks, recalls Le Figaro . The two spouses then filed a complaint against each other and were placed in police custody.

During the hearing, which was held on October 24, Mathias Vicherat did not admit to any of the facts with which he was accused. Anissa Bonnefont, for her part, admitted to having slapped her ex-companion, but denied having punched and kicked him.

The prosecution had requested an identical sentence for the two defendants: six months in prison, suspended, according to Le Figaro. The court did not comply with his requisitions. Mathias Vicherat and Anissa Bonnefont have ten days to appeal this conviction.
