After the snowy episode that occurred last week, spring temperatures were felt between Sunday and Monday. So, as Christmas approaches, will the cold make a comeback?
She was last week's surprise guest. Snow surprised France in the middle of November, accompanied by polar temperatures. But it quickly gave way to spring weather conditions, between Sunday and Monday. And for several hours, a new drop in temperatures has been felt. Enough to fuel questions about the weather expected in December.
Humidity, the key word for the first two weeks
According to the first forecasts for the month of December, significant cloud scarves should cover the first days of the month. Along the coasts, they could also be accompanied by rain.
By the second week of December, low pressure activity is expected to intensify towards the British Isles. Gradually leading to disruptions, especially in the northern half of France. Thus, the country could observe regular rains in mid-December, with sometimes sustained winds.
But according to the atmospheric projections of the American CFS model, a powerful anticyclone should prevent the bulk of the disturbances from settling permanently in France. For the moment, the forecasts do not allow us to know the trends for the second period of December.
Sweetness in the air
In terms of temperatures, the first two weeks of December should be close to seasonal norms, or even milder, particularly in the southern half of the country. A small thermal surplus is forecast for the week of December 16 to 22, before temperatures return to normal for Christmas week.
For the moment, a snowy episode, like that of last week, is not expected. As snow is generally a local phenomenon, which does not last over time, it is impossible to predict a snowy episode in the plains more than a few days in advance.
It has now been 14 years since France last experienced a snowy Christmas in the plains. What if 2024 was an exception to the rule?
