The Sex Pistols, Damso, Katherine and Julien Doré expected this summer

We won't know everything about the programming. Unlike previous editions, the Vieilles Charrues festival did not want to throw out everything from the line-up of its 33rd edition, which will take place from July 17 to 20 in Carhaix (Finistère). The organizers still released a list of artists who had confirmed their arrival. And obviously, it will be heavy. With a first surprise: the arrival of the Sex Pistols! The English punk band has reformed around new singer Frank Carter. Also on the program: the rap of Damso, SDM and Tiakola, but also some big international names. The inimitable voice of Alanis Morissette, the Macklemore show and the intriguing Norwegian singer Aurora. On the French side, we will count on the whimsical Philippe Katherine, the charming Julien Doré and the excellent rock from Alsace with Last Train.

After a record edition over five days and the arrival of the Red Hot in 2023, the Vieilles Charrues showed a clear drop in attendance last year, weighed down by a less stellar program and gloomy weather. The losses amounted to more than a million euros. The 32nd edition was not helped by the relationship problems between the association and the municipality.

Money troubles

For years, the festival has come up against the moods of the mayor of Carhaix Christian Troadec, who has several times wanted to charge for the use of the meadow, asking for 367,000 euros in fees for the occupation of this municipal land.

In October, the organizers and the town hall found “an agreement in principle” aimed at maintaining one of the largest French festivals on its current site. Jérôme Tréhorel, the director of the festival, had warned of the risk that the 2024 edition would be the last in Kerampuilh. Risk which seems to have been ruled out for 2025.
