Gareth Bale issues Alexis Mac Allister verdict as Liverpool suffer injury blow

A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as Gareth Bale issues a verdict on Alexis Mac Allister against Real Madrid and Arne Slot lands an update on Conor Bradley’s injury.

Arne Slot confirms Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit to face Manchester City

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be fit to face Manchester City this Sunday. The Premier League title fight hots up at Anfield this weekend as the defending champions visit the current table-toppers, who could move 11 points clear.

A streak of three consecutive defeats has left Manchester City slipping away from Liverpool, while Slot enjoys a fantastic start to his tenure on Merseyside. The Reds are the only side to secure more than the seven wins the Citizens have seized in the opening 12 fixtures with 10.

Alexander-Arnold missed Liverpool’s last Premier League fixture at Southampton due to the hamstring injury he sustained against Aston Villa on November 9. But the 26-year-old made the bench against Real Madrid on Wednesday night, although Slot opted against risking him.

Slot announced in his press conference on Thursday previewing Manchester City’s visit that Liverpool face further fitness concerns following their 2-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League. But Alexander-Arnold is ready to start on Sunday if Liverpool need him.

“They are still being assessed,” Slot noted. “It’s so close after the game last night and I just came off the training pitch, so I can’t tell you exactly where they are. So, let’s wait and see.” But pushed on if Alexander-Arnold would be ready to start, Slot answered “Yes, he would.”

Liverpool defender Conor Bradley could be out until 2025 with a hamstring injury

Liverpool might now be without defender Conor Bradley until 2025 after he sustained what seemed to be a hamstring injury against Real Madrid, understands Rousing The Kop. The 21-year-old pulled up due to the issue late in the second half and was taken off on 87 minutes.

Initial assessments following the Champions League affair indicated that Bradley will miss at least one month. But Liverpool accept that the Northern Ireland international may need yet further time to fully recover beyond a tentative expectation that Bradley can return in 2024.

At the earliest, Liverpool feel Bradley could return from his injury to meet West Ham United on December 29. The Reds travel to London Stadium to see out the year with Bradley likely to miss at least eight games, including league fixtures against Manchester City and Everton.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister blew Gareth Bale away with his display against Real Madrid in the Champions League. The 25-year-old helped the Reds to a 2-0 win to maintain a perfect record in the UEFA competition this term by breaking the deadlock on 52 minutes.

Mac Allister fired past Thibaut Courtois early in the second half with the Argentine’s second goal through five appearances in Europe this season. He also netted once against Bologna in a 2-0 win in October. The midfielder has zero goal involvements in the Premier League so far.

After waiting patiently in a pocket of space on the edge of Real Madrid’s penalty area, Mac Allister played a one-two with Conor Bradley before threading his shot into the far, bottom corner. The quality of Mac Allister’s finish seriously impressed Bale, who admired his talent.

“You can see he is a very technically gifted player,” Bale said on TNT Sports after the match. “It’s that typical South American style. Great one-two and then a great finish in the corner.”
