“He started by asking for a pain au chocolat”: a man tries to rob a bakery and leaves… with a pastry

the essential
A man tried to rob a bakery, armed with a pistol, Monday November 25, in Bannalec (Finistère). He only left with a pastry because the employee refused to give him the cash register.

If he fails to fill his bank account, he will probably have succeeded in satisfying his appetite. Monday, November 25, in the small town of Bannalec (Finistère), a man tried to steal the cash register from a bakery, Le Fournil de Jules, as Côté recounts.

Around 6 p.m., the 42-year-old man showed up at the store, hat on his head, with a neck gaiter, in order to preserve his identity. His goal? The establishment's cash register. “He started by asking for a pain au chocolat then asked for the cash register, presenting an Airsoft gun,” a magistrate told our colleagues.

“A bad joke”

But the employee, who was alone in the store at the time of the incident, did not stop and refused to comply. “I thought it was a bad joke,” she told our colleagues at Telegram. The man left empty-handed, with only his pastries which he did not pay for.

The individual was arrested the day after the events, in the town where the events took place. He was placed in police custody and referred to the Quimper public prosecutor's office on Wednesday November 27 in the middle of the afternoon. He was sentenced to one year in prison during his hearing before the judge of freedoms and detention.
