Crown Prince Leka, grandson of King Zog I, recalled that on this date of the 112th anniversary of independence, it is important “to honor the past, which is closely linked to the sacrifices and efforts of previous generations for freedom and national dignity”. Crown Prince Leka recalled that the decision taken by the new assembly in 1912 was more than a declaration of independence, this act was “the manifestation of a spirit of perseverance and unity which has illuminated our path over the centuries”.

Prince Leka calls for reflection on the past but also on the future that Albanians aspire to build. This day is an opportunity to remember the great heroes of history, such as George Kastrioti, better known as Skanderberg who resisted the Ottomans in the 15th century. There is also Ismail Qemali, who proclaimed the independence of Albania in 1912 in Vlorë.

Crown Prince Leka reiterates the importance of providing “continued efforts to keep intact our identity and freedom as a nation”, “at a time when violence and the lack of healthy role models threaten the future of younger generations”. The head of the royal family adds that “Politics cannot be the theater of personal ambitions, but must place education, security and well-being at the center. Albania needs leaders who inspire with their values and build a future where young people feel proud of their country. »

Prince Leka has not forgotten the large Albanian diaspora whose “the contributions are a source of inspiration for every Albanian, wherever they are.” To conclude, Leka recalls that “History has proven that when we are united, we overcome extraordinary challenges. Today, this call for unity is more relevant than ever. Let us work for an Albania that is fair, developed and open to opportunities. Only by supporting each other and reinforcing the values inherited from the past can we build a future of which we are proud. Inspired by the legacy of our ancestors, we can carry the banner of hope and progress. Let us illuminate Albania with the light of knowledge, work and love for the homeland. Homeland above all! »
