Ten days of frantic search, and at the end, deliverance. On November 19, Amalka, a 2-year-old dog, escaped from the hold of an Air France plane before scampering onto the runways of Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport.
Since then, its Czech owner Michaela has taken steps to find her, helped by Air France and Aéroports de Paris. The hunt ended this Thursday morning in Villeneuve-sous-Dammartin (Seine-et-Marne), a little over six kilometers from the airport runways.
“Amalka had ten seconds of hesitation before running into his arms”
“Thanks to the wanted posters, we had received a few reports in the area,” explains Carine, a ground handling agent in Roissy and a volunteer with the Cats in the Air association, specializing in rescuing cats that go missing during trips to the airport. . A team from Capture Yala (an association specializing in capturing stray dogs) located Amalka in the middle of a wire mesh playground. »
Arriving at full speed on the scene with Michaela, Carine was the first to attend the reunion. “Misa* went into the enclosure alone and called her dog. Amalka had ten seconds of hesitation, before running into his arms, it was magical. »
After ten days of wandering around the airport and its surroundings, the nightmare ended for this young dog. According to Carine, she was able to feed on rabbits while hunting, drink rainwater and get supplies at the feeding points dedicated to stray cats at the airport.
A dog out of breath, thin but not “in bad condition”
This is what would explain his state of health, a priori rather good. “We found her thin, of course, out of breath and tired, but not in such bad condition,” confides the volunteer, who specifies that Amalka will be checked by a veterinarian in the afternoon. On the side of his owner Michaela, despondency has given way to happiness. “She had to fly back on Friday no matter what, so it’s a relief to be able to leave with her dog. She's exhausted because we walked night and day to the airport to pick her up, but she's so happy. She cries with joy. »
Emotions inevitably shared by Carine, after more than a week supporting the owner. “I'm as tired as she is and I feel the same relief. It's like I found my own dog. » Especially since, in my memory as a rescuer, Carine had not experienced such a grueling search… and so far from the airport. “We found a cat in Roissy-en-France some time ago. But there, Amalka was very fast, she gave us a lot of trouble. »
