Update from November 28th, 2024: Swisscom has announced the availability of its new AI platform. This offers corporate customers a secure and powerful AI infrastructure. With the “Swiss AI Platform”, which was presented in June, all data will be stored and processed in Switzerland. This will allow companies to retain full control over their data and at the same time meet the relevant data protection requirements, as Swisscom reports.
Since its launch, Swisscom has been testing the new platform in various areas, according to the statement. In collaboration with the Thurgauer Kantonalbank, for example, an internal chatbot for employees and automated answers to customer inquiries are being tested. According to Swisscom, other projects include the automatic transcription of emergency calls for emergency call organizations and AI-supported applications for internal Swisscom purposes for customer service or marketing campaigns.
Original message from June 7th, 2024:
Swisscom launches its own AI platform
With the “Swiss AI Platform”, Swisscom is launching an infrastructure with which companies can develop their own AI applications. From autumn 2024, customers will have access to Nvidia supercomputers, generative AI services, an AI work hub for developing AI solutions and a library of models via the platform, as the telco announced.
The platform has a modular structure so that customers can choose and combine the components they need flexibly and according to their respective requirements. The “Swiss AI Platform” combines services in the areas of AI infrastructure, platform and applications. This includes:
- GPU Rental: Access to the first Nvidia SuperPOD system in Switzerland to process large amounts of data, for example for training, fine-tuning and operating models.
- GenAI Studio: Access to GenAI services via API interfaces in order to put together AI solutions according to your own needs and align them with company-specific content and requirements
- AI Work Hub: a service for data scientists who analyze and process large amounts of data and create and train models
- Model Catalog: curated library of AI models. Initially, only open source models are available. In the next step, models to be licensed or models developed by Swisscom with third parties will be added.
The platform is intended to be a one-stop shop that covers consulting, AI application development, implementation and operations. Customers have the choice between the Swiss AI Platform, the infrastructure of global public cloud providers or the use of integrated AI solutions in standard software applications.
Nvidia-Infrastructure
Nvidia’s infrastructure is particularly suitable for applications that are based on sensitive data and therefore require data storage and processing in Switzerland, the statement continues. Together with Nvidia and the international public cloud partners, a Swiss Center of Excellence for AI has been set up. Swisscom also emphasizes that it employs around 400 AI and data specialists who have many years of broad experience.
