SFR is still losing subscribers on mobile and landlines but is reducing the loss

SFR announces the loss of 162,000 subscribers during the 3rd quarter of 2024. Its turnover continues to decline.

To once again become the preferred operator of the French by 2028, the road will still be long. After , Bouygues Telecom and Free, it is up to SFR to reveal its results for the 3rd quarter of 2024. Although it has lost more than 1 million subscribers in 1 year, the operator in the red square manages to reduce the hemorrhage somewhat. Between the end of June and the end of September, it notably lost 109,000 mobile customers compared to 343,000 during the second quarter, for a total base of 19.515 million packages. Thanks to the acquisition of La Poste Mobile, Bouygues Telecom will put itself in its rearview mirror with its 18.2 million cumulative subscribers. In the third quarter, the operator also recruited more than its rivals, i.e. 172,000 packages sold, compared to 131,000 for Free Mobile and 83,000 for Orange.

On landlines, the lights are also red for SFR with the loss of 53,000 subscribers compared to 87,000 during the previous year. At the same time, its competitors are showing positive recruitment, with Orange even managing to return to the green with 6,000 net sales after losing 100,000 subscribers in one year. The main growth driver among ISPs, fiber does not allow SFR to get its head above water commercially despite having reached the 5 million THD mark. During the 3rd quarter, the Altice subsidiary recorded 66,000 net sales in the segment, including migrations, far from the 259,000 new recruitments of Orange and the 159,000 and 137,000 sales of Bouygues Telecom and Free.

In one year, SFR lost 1.460 million fixed and mobile subscribers. At the same time, Free, leader, gained 926,000, ahead of Bouygues Telecom (+ 441,000). On the financial side, the Total revenue of the Altice subsidiary decreased by 4.7% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, to 2.5 billion in revenue. If the fixed branch continues to do well despite successive poor commercial performancesn annual growth of 2.5% to 667 million euros, it does not compensate for the mobile mobile activity, down 4.4% to 902 million. Ebitda fell at the same time by 9.9% while the total accumulated investment expenditure amounts to €4.90 million, generating a total free operating cash flow of €389 million. The crisis therefore continues.
